How to check whether a provider is registered

  1. 01

    Open the official Provider Register

Use the Commission link in Official sources below. A search-engine result or business directory is only a starting point.

  2. 02

    Search the business identity

Try the business name, legal name or ABN. A trading name may differ from the legal entity on an invoice. Ask the provider for that entity's details if results are unclear.

  3. 03

    Read the status

The register includes approved, suspended and revoked registrations. Use the Approved filter when looking for currently registered providers, and check the register's last data update.

  4. 04

Match the service to the evidence

Ask for the current registration certificate and check that the entity, relevant registration groups and conditions match the service being offered. Keep a dated record of your check.

Which number do you need?

IdentifierWhat to check
Australian Business Number (ABN)Identifies the business for ABR purposes. Having an ABN does not establish NDIS registration.
NDIS registration certificateRecords the Commission's registration for the named entity. Read its scope and conditions, not just the heading.
NDIA provider numberUsed in the NDIA provider system. Find your own number through the my NDIS provider portal or ask the NDIA for help.
Worker screening numberRelates to an individual worker's screening. It does not prove that a business is a registered provider.

What if the business does not appear?

Check spelling, the legal entity and the ABN before drawing a conclusion. Ask the business to explain any mismatch between its advertised name, invoice and certificate. If it claims current registration and the evidence still does not match, contact the Commission before relying on the claim.

Some businesses can lawfully provide eligible supports without registration. Absence from a registered-provider search alone does not establish misconduct. Whether registration is required depends on the support and funding arrangement; see our registration decision guide below.

Before sharing personal information

Do not send participant plans, passwords or identification documents to a business simply to perform a public registration check. Navigate to official services yourself, and verify the organisation before sharing sensitive information.

Frequently asked questions

Can I search the NDIS register using an ABN?
Yes. The Commission lists ABN, business name and legal name among its search options. Match the result to the entity you intend to engage.
Is an ABN the same as an NDIS provider number?
No. An ABN identifies a business. The NDIA issues provider numbers, while the Commission handles provider registration.
Can you retrieve my provider number for me?
We cannot access your private NDIA account or issue numbers. Use your official provider portal or call the NDIA Provider Contact Centre on 1300 311 675.
